The Ministry of the Interior

Survey of research communication

Challenge

The Ministry of the Interior funds research that is important for Finland. Issues related to internal security are vital to every Finn, and new research on them is constantly needed to support decision making. It is essential that these studies can be communicated clearly and openly both within the administration and to the general public. The Ministry of the Interior’s research team wanted to straighten up the internal organization of research communication and improve its effectiveness.

Solution

We assessed the present state, strengths and weaknesses of the Ministry of the Interior’s research communication by examining interviews, a stakeholder survey, written material and communication channels. We analysed how research communication is organized and executed in the Ministry of the Interior. We mapped out expectations and development targets. Finally, we summed up our observations into concrete action proposals that enable research communication to be done more efficiently, systematically and effectively.
